Web Hosting Firm, DiscountASP.NET, Launches Free SQL Server 2008 Beta

Advanced ASP.NET hosting provider, DiscountASP.NET, has launched a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 hosting beta program, to be available to all customers, at no additional cost.

Customers can enable their free SQL 2008 hosting beta account through their control panel. Takeshi Eto, VP Marketing at DiscountASP.NET noted, ”Under the SQL 2008 Go Live program, we are giving our customers a free SQL 2008 beta database account for testing purposes. The beta program provides our customers with the opportunity to get a jumpstart in testing SQL 2008 in a live hosted environment before its official release.”

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 is a major update to its enterprise database product and is currently in RC0 release. Although no launch date has been officially stated, the final release of SQL Server 2008 is said to be slated for Q3 2008.

For developers, some of the new SQL 2008 features include new data types, such as date/time data types and geospatial data types. In addition, Language Integrated Query (LINQ), integrated full text search, sparse columns, and large user-defined types are improvements that will help drive next-generation data-centric applications.

Recently, the Company reported that it is the first host to introduce Microsoft DBManager and AmdinPack IIS Manager UI extensions in public beta for customers. Along with the launch of Windows 2008 and Internet Information Services 7.0 (IIS7), Microsoft introduced IIS Manager, a new IIS tool which provides users with a familiar user interface to remotely manage IIS7 server configurations. Using IIS Manager, DiscountASP.NET customers can view settings and manipulate their web.config files for features that have been delegated to them.

DiscountASP.NET introduces the following Microsoft IIS Manager UI extensions:

ASP.NET Authorization Rules UI: This tool allows customers to configure ASP.NET authorization settings.
ASP.NET Error Page UI: This tool allows customers to configure ASP.NET custom error settings.
Request Filtering UI: This tool allows customers to configure IIS request filtering module settings.
DBManager: This tool allows customers to perform basic database administration and queries.
