VPNs gaining popularity over public network

The increasing number of vendors that offer virtual private network (VPN)
secure networking solutions or that specialize in VPN equipment has spurred the
emergence of several VPNs over the public network. VPNs are important to
Internet service providers searching for new ways to generate revenue and to
customers seeking to cut network building costs without sacrificing the level
of security. Virtual private networking is quickly becoming a catch phrase in
both public and private infrastructure.
