ServInt Deploys Parallels Virtuozzo Containers
Posted by Webhost - 31/03/09 at 09:03 pmParallels, a provider of virtualization and automation software, yesterday announced that ServInt, a web hosting provoder, is virtualizing its Dedicated Server offerings with the company’s OS-level virtualization solution, Parallels Virtuozzo Containers. The company states that ServInt was previously deploying Parallels Virtuozzo Containers to underpin its Virtual Private Server offerings, and has now broadened the deployment across all servers, including those used for Dedicated Server offerings.
The company explains that ServInt’s new Dedicated Server offering, introduced earlier this year, provides web and application hosting for established e-commerce sites, resellers and mid-size companies seeking manageability and high value. Parallels Virtuozzo Containers provides scalability to underpin this offering by facilitating easy movement of server content from one hardware environment to another with little downtime. The technology does this by enabling users to simultaneously run multiple execution environments called “containers” on a single physical server and OS installation. Customized management tools in the product reduce ServInt’s management burden, allowing the hosting provider to re-focus on sales and customer support without the worry of managing co-location space, power, cooling and hardware support.
“For more than five years, Parallels’ containers-based virtualization software has allowed us to achieve higher density on servers when needed, without losing the native performance of the machine,” said Christian Dawson, ServInt’s vice president of operations. “The software enables us to deliver new offerings, improve manageability and reduce the total cost of ownership for our customers. By combining high product functionality with responsive support, Parallels has become the ideal business partner.”
“ServInt is taking a unique approach to virtualization by offering Parallels Virtuozzo Containers on managed dedicated servers,” said Jack Zubarev, President of Service Provider Division, Parallels. “By adopting this approach, they can deploy servers more quickly and reliably, while providing end-users with an interface that is easily manageable. This allows ServInt to concentrate on core competencies, while delivering great service.”
