IPOWER Launches Newly Designed Green Website
Posted by Webhost - 31/07/09 at 09:07 pmWeb hosting provider IPOWER (www.ipower.com) announced on Friday it has revealed its newly designed, 100 percent carbon neutral website (www.ipower.com/green), which features a sleek new layout that offers access to tools and services.
IPOWER has streamlined site navigation, with a single row, drop down menu at the top of the screen, and a mini-sitemap in the expanded footer section.
“We wanted to improve the customer experience and provide our Web hosting customers and site visitors with the most efficient site possible, so, we’ve removed the clutter and simplified the navigation,” says Jen Merry, IPOWER Marketing Manager.
The new website also features a revamped FileManager tool, which lets customers upload and manage site files and directories in a more “user-friendly interface”. The web host has also revised many FileManager features for improved usability.
But perhaps the most notable feature behind the new website is that it is powered entirely by wind energy, along with all of IPOWER’s offices and data centers.
IPOWER is offsetting all electricity use with the purchase of wind-generated Renewable Energy Certificates. The estimated environmental benefit from this purchase is equivalent to offsetting about 2,660 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year.
RECs help fund new and existing renewable energy projects, giving developers a greater financial incentive to continue investing in these projects.
That said, some have criticized the purchasing of RECs and carbon offsets as being nothing more than a costly way for a company to appear as being eco-friendly without having to reduce their own carbon emissions or directly use renewable energy sources.
But participating in an REC or carbon offset program shows that the company is making somewhat of an effort to improve its ecological footprint, and often times is the only option for those businesses that do not have access to renewable energy in their area.
IPOWER is celebrating the new website and the ongoing support from its customers with a special promotion, where it is offering additional hosting plans at a discounted price.
