GreenSoft Expands ATC Data Center in Kansas City
Posted by Webhost - 18/08/09 at 09:08 pmWeb hosting provider GreenSoft Solutions (www.gsihosting.com) announced on Tuesday it has successfully completed a six-month expansion project to add capacity to its AirWorld Technology Center facility in Kansas City.
The project has more than doubled the available cabinets for GSI’s customers, and contributes to the company’s ongoing development efforts to build out more of its 77,000 square-foot facility in a “modular fashion” to meet business growth.
Designed with the enterprise hosting client in mind, the newly expanded data center contains 36-inch raised floors, high-density power capability, and a cooling infrastructure substantial enough to support any blade technology and high-density hosting application.
The facility uses Liebert power conditioning and battery backup equipment to deliver 5,000 “usable” watts of clean A/B power to each cabinet within the expanded data center. The 30-ton Liebert precision cooling and humidity control units generate almost two tons of cooling capacity for every cabinet.
The expansion’s design also contains many energy efficiency measures, including low voltage lighting, air circulation enhancements and cold aisle containment techniques.
“The demand for managed hosting services continues to grow as our clients and prospects seek power and cooling capabilities adequate to support the enhanced computing infrastructures of today and tomorrow,” says Robin Greenhagen, GSI’s founder and chief technology officer. “This expansion will address those needs by delivering well over 200 watts of reliable power per square foot, while easily maintaining all environment controls within comfortable and efficient operating ranges. We are happy to be able to bring this additional capacity on line right now in order to support mission-critical computing with these advanced cooling, power, redundancy and sustainability capabilities.”
AT&T originally built the AirWorld Technology Center before it was acquired by GSI in 2006. Since then, the company has made many renovations and modernization upgrades to the facility, including power and cooling enhancements, security and video surveillance initiatives, fire detection and suppression measures, and network expansion and protection.
In late 2007, GSI relocated its corporate offices to ATC from its other enterprise-class data center in downtown Kansas City. GSI is one of the largest commercial data center operators in the Midwest.
In addition to the AirWorld Technology Center, the company owns and operates two other major data centers in the Kansas City area, all of which are backed by industry standards, including PCI, Sarbanes Oxley, HIPAA, ISO 17799, COBIT, COSO and SAS70.
